Iran believes that Israel and an opposition group expelled from Iran have used a long-controlled weapon to kill Iran's nuclear scientist, Mohsen Fahrizadeh, on Friday the next week.
In a speech during Fahrizadeh's funeral in Tehran, Chief of Security Ali Shamkhani has said the attackers “used electronic devices” and were not present at the site of the attack.
He has not provided more details about his claims.
The Iranian Defence Ministry has initially reported that Fahkrizadeh has been fired, as several attackers have targeted his vehicle.
Israel has not commented on these claims.
Members of Iranian forces carry the coffin of scientist Mohsen Fahrizadeh during the funeral ceremony in Tehran on November 30th.
Fahrizadeh has played an extremely important role in Iran's nuclear programme in the early 2000s and has recently been accused by Israel of continuing to contribute to the secret development of nuclear weapons.
Iran insists that its nuclear programme is fully peaceful.
Mohsen Fahrizadeh's funeral ceremony is organised by the Defence Ministry in Tehran.
His body was later carried to a cemetery in the northern Iranian capital.
Supreme Council of National Security Secretary Ali Shamkhan has said Iranian intelligence and security services have been aware of the plot to kill Fakhrizadehu, and have even predicted when the attack could occur.
“have increased its security capacity, but the enemy has used special, completely new methods and unfortunately has been successful”, he said.
