Haradinaj: With Thaci and Wessel we were close to becoming president

He has said he has accepted the nomination by the AAK's Headship and Steering Council to be president of the country. According to him, this position has numerous challenges and obligations.

I see everyone's criticism and thoughts about my candidacy. The reason for this nomination is to serve the country in this difficult time. Then it's about our destiny and the processes that await us in the coming years”, Haradinaj has told RTK.

According to him, there are actually agencies in the country that we need to get out of here. Haradinaj has compared this time to the time when he was first elected prime minister in a coalition with Ibrahim Rugova and the LDK.

The coalition with Rugova was also in good time for reconciliation and unity. We shouldn't let others get in the way of us, so today we need someone who knows who is giving more direction to the country, a man who is respected by people of war, families of martyrs, communities, etc.”, the former prime minister said.

He also said that in this case Kosovo is not in the best position.

There are several themes weighing on us now, pandemic, economic situation, but also the inability to implement the budget such as the Law on Economic Restitution, then dialogue, the flooding of citizenship, acts that are in the process of political interference, etc. My programme is to preserve the unitary state, constitutionality”, said.

In addition Haradinaj has said that for his candidacy for president, he has met with all political leaders, including those of the government coalition and former President Hashim Thaci and PDK chairman Kadri Veseli.

I've met everyone, Limaj, Pacoll, Mustaf... with other communities, and I've told them that this is my candidacy. I have also met Thaci and Wessel and have maintained my respect for them, and I have presented my design to them. We've had a close-up in the last few moments, but since they're not here they won't make more public”, he said.

According to Haradinaj, he has been close to closing the agreement with Thaci and Veselin for his candidacy for president.

“We have also had a meeting on the day Wessel traveled to The Hague. I met Enver Hoxha, Ismaili Bridge, Sami Lushtaku. We're under way. The issue is to reach an agreement with the PDK as we are in the coalition with the LDK. So we need a joint meeting where we all sit and we all fall for President”, he said. /
