In the German Bundestag, MPs are voting for a bill that would enable the German government to independently impose anti-religious restrictions, without a parliamentary procedure, the AP reports.
Although the government has banned a series of protests warned before Bundestag for security reasons, meetings are not banned in other parts of the German capital.
The crowd had already gathered and began clashes with the police, who threw cannons at the protesters. Protesters later fired bottles and other items in the direction of the police.
Police said protesters ignored warnings to set masks and maintain the physical distance set.
Following the waterball intervention, police officers ran among the protesters and arrested several of them, and protesters returned the attack with torches.
