Dr. Anthony Fauci, the leading expert on infectious diseases in the United States, said that some of the symptoms of COVID-19 last much longer than symptoms from other viral syndromes like flu.
Between 25% and 35% of patients with COVID-19 have prolonged symptoms of fatigue, muscle pain, sleep disorders, and so on after recovery.
“We know absolutely certain that there is a post-COVID syndrome-19“, Fauci said Saturday during a meeting with the American Medical Association.
It is unclear exactly how long the symptoms can last, but Fauci said they have been observed for months after an initial infection.
Fauci also said that the death rate from COVID-19 in the United States has been declining in recent months due to three factors: patients' <x0-year-olds, the experience of patients with the virus and better medicines”.
The fact that young people are now becoming infected is also a factor that lowers the death level, he said.
