During a conference with EU ministers, Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovski said Monday that the European side wants to avoid punitive maneuvers.
America, with the permission of the World Trade Organization last year, is applying 7 and a half billion tariffs to goods, such as French wine, Italian cheese, drinks and clothing.
Our “Proposal lies, for both sides to give up the tariffs and find together a solution through negotiations. So far the U.S. has refused to withdraw. ”
German Economy Minister Peter Altmayer shared the conviction that Germany and the European union seek to improve trade relations with the US.
This is hoped to be achieved after the transfer of power from Republican Donald Trump to the future Democrat president, Joe Biden, who has promised more positive access to business partners.
European diplomats say their punitive fees are expected to weigh on American aircraft, certain agricultural products and construction materials, and certain refreshments and alcoholic beverages.
The battle between Brussels and Washington is followed by 2004 when the American side accused European governments at the time of backing French aircraft producer “Airbus”, unfairly interfering with competition with the aeronautics giant, “Boeing”.
