EU gives 103.3m euros to support Albania's European road, economic recovery

The European Commission has approved a 103.3m-euro package to support Albania.
The approved programme focuses on core EU accession issues, such as rule of law, fundamental rights and good governance.
Furthermore, assistance is offered to further address the consequences of the COVID-19 crisis.
EU Commissioner for Business and Enlargement Oliver Varhely said the European Union continues to stay close to Albania.
“Facing the COVID-19 crisis, we have made adjustments to existing funds to help Albania resist current social and economic challenges. At the same time, EU funds aim to support the key reforms Albania must implement to move forward on its European path. ”
The programme includes actions to strengthen rule of law and the fight against organised crime and corruption, improving the capacity of the Special Prosecutor for Anti-Corruption, the National Bureau of Investigation and Independent Law Institutions.
The financing has also been provided for the development of a dynamic land market in Albania through the creation of a clear framework of property rights.
The package also continues to support improving the capacity of the public sector to respond to the needs of citizens and businesses.
The programme will function both at national and local levels.
The EU will continue to support Albania's participation in EU programmes such as Erasmus + and Horizon2020.
Finally, the current package meets other measures linked to COVIDD-19 set up for Albania by the EU, expanding support for businesses and the overall economy.
Albania's annual Action 2020 programme includes seven actions:
EU for Good Governance (48.1m euros)
EU Support for Participation in Union Programmes (1.5m euros)
EU Integration Faciality ( 8.3m euros)
EU for Rule of Law (5m euros)
EU for Property Rights (5.7m euros)
International Monitor operation (IMO) Stage II (8.7m euros)
EU for economic recovery (26m euros)
Following the outbreak of COVID-19, existing EU funds were reoriented with the dual goal of helping Albania provide emergency health equipment and equipment and address the social and economic consequences of the crisis.
Albania's COVID-19 package totals 50.65m euros.
$1 103.3 million program The IPA 2020 contributes to the COVID-19 package, with 26m euros in EU for economic recovery action.
In addition, the COVID-19 package includes 4m euros to address immediate needs for medical equipment. Funding comes from the program IPA 2017 20.65m euros to meet an existing 50m-euro social inclusion programme under IPA 2019.
This programme includes an additional 28m-euro aloation in return for Albania's progress in implementing reforms.
