“After being in ministerial positions for almost five years, I made the decision not to continue my ministry (as finance minister) because of health problems,” said Berat Albayrak in an Instagram message.
Albayrak (42) has been the minister of finance since July 2018, and he was previously the minister of energy for three years.
His resignation followed the departure of Turkish Central Bank Governor Murat Wysal, who was replaced by former Finance Minister Naji Agbal.
Analysts question the reason for Albayrak's resignation. Some mention the former minister now had good relations with Jared Kouchner, an adviser to US President Donald Trump.
According to them, these relations are no longer important for Erdogan after Trump lost the presidential election.
Albayrak is married to Erdogan's daughter Esra and has four children.
