The loss of the Podujevo municipality's position by the Democratic League of Kosovo has added doubts that this political party could lead until the end of the current government's mandate. A new agreement on reshaping the government or early elections is being seen as real options.
Analyst Fitim Salihu says losing power in the Podujevo municipality of LDK is the result of misgovernance, though he does not rule out new elections at the central level either.
This is the protest vote and revolt against the 20-year-old government of LDK. The irritability has been so high that citizens have agreed to vote on even a political figure that has been two decades on the LDK and not vote directly on LDK. Now when the LDK has lost its main raid and is not finding the election numbers, it looks inevitable”, Fitim Salihu said.
Eugen Cakoli from the Kosovo Democratic Institute says a trend of voting against the current elite is being seen in new voters. As for the government's fate, he says it is looking difficult to find a solution within the coalition.
“cannot be continued in this manner of functioning of the government's Parliament, respectively, as the simplest bills in the Assembly are not being passed as far as the executive unable to address citizens' demands. It should be seen the government's enlargement option, which also relates to the election of the president, since there can be no long-term Assembly if the subjects disagree to elect President”, Eugen Cakoli said.
The law on economic recovery has challenged the government, while it has been in the Parliament's approval procedure for months. But it was Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, who has publicly pledged that this law will be voted in this week.
