Georgia's secretary of state announced on Wednesday a recount of the results of the presidential elections he said would take place by a full number of votes, because the margin is so narrow.
State law requires a recount, but it leaves the top election official to choose the race. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said at a press conference that the presidential race is of greater importance. Raffensperger's office has said there is no evidence of systemic problems with voting or counting showing Democrat Joe Biden with an advantage of about 14,000 votes to President Donald Trump.
Raffensperger said his office wants the process to begin at the end of the week and he expects it to last until November 20th, which is the state certificate deadline.
Georgia has 16 electoral votes.
The “will be a heavy increase, but we will work with the circuits to do this in time for our state certificate”, said Raffensperger, accompanied by local election officials on the steps of the state Capitol. “We have all worked hard to bring fair and accurate numbers to ensure that the will of voters is reflected in the final count and that each voter will have confidence in the outcome, whether his candidate is won or lost. ”
