The Democratic League of Kosovo's Nechmi Rudari, Vetevendosje Movement Speed, and Naim Fetah of the Democratic Party of Kosovo are in the race to receive short term until the upcoming 2021 municipal elections.

Long ago, the Central Election Commission (KQZ) has decided that the campaign for local elections in Podujevo will begin on 23 November and last until 27 November.

Votes for Podujevo are held after Kosovo Government Interior Minister Agim Veliu was appointed to the post. They were meant to be held on March 15th, but due to the coronary epidemic, they were postponed for November 29th.

The election for mayor of this municipality will be held on November 29th, when it will also be voted for chairman of North Mitrovica.

Under Kosovo's president's decisions on announcing and setting the date of elections, organising and holding elections for mayor in Podujevo and Northern Mitrovica must be made in co-ordination and co-ordination with relevant institutions in accordance with the Law for Prevention and Combating the COVID-19 pandemic in Kosovo.

The CEC has made the decision to limit election campaign spending, in which the top cost limit for political subjects in the Podujevo municipality is 43.931 euros. This decision is based on the preliminary list of the civil registry, under which the number of registered voters in this municipality is 87.863 voters.

While in northern Mitrovica, the number of registered voters is 23.180. This municipality has been without chairman since June of this year, when Goran Rakiq was elected Minister of Administration and Local Self-Government, thus resigning from the post of chairman and his former deputy, Aleksandar Spiric, took office.
