Stephen Ellison, 61, was walking across the river in a nearby village, when a 24-year-old woman slipped into stone and fell into the water.
The video footage of the spies showed how she was having difficulty standing above the water as the current moved quickly, leaving her unconscious.
Mr. Ellison took his shoes off and jumped to save him, writes BBC, translates Periscope.
She was unconscious, she wasn't breathing, and we briefly feared the worst. But as they were returning to shore, she started breathing again,” he told the BBC.
The student in question said that she was very grateful and invited the diplomat to dinner with her family next weekend. /Periscope
