About 15 other people have been injured some heavy ones after armed men opened fire at six different locations in downtown town on Monday evening, the BBC writes, broadcasting Periscope.
A suspect was shot dead by police, officials said.
Interior Minister Carl Nehammer described the attacker killed by police as a <x1-terrorist Islamic”. Addressing a press conference, he said the attacker was a sympathising with Islamic State (IS) and that the suspect's house was controlled and seized video material.
Police wrote in Titeter that he was wearing a false explosive belt. Earlier, Nehammer said at least one heavily armed and dangerous “ ” was believed to be still at large.
He urged people to avoid the center of Vienna and told parents not to take their children to high school.
The shooting erupted near Vienna's central synagogue, but it is not yet clear if this was the target.
