So who is allowed into Switzerland, and under what circumstances? It all depends on where you're coming from.
On October 29th, Switzerland softened its quarantine rules. This does not mean, however, that everyone is now allowed in, writes The Local.
If you want to and if you have to quarantine it will depend primarily on infection levels and if your country is a member of the Schengen group or one of the exceptions lists.
Here's what you need to know.
How has this changed over time?
On July 6th, Switzerland decided on the obligation of quarantine for arrivals from so-called high-risk countries.
Swiss authorities announced on October 29th new measures to curb the country's corruption cases on rise, and admitted there was no longer any meaning for most travelers in the country to quarantine.
But as he presented stricter rules on wearing masks and crowd sizes, the government also said it would lift the quarantine requirement for 10 days after arriving in Switzerland or risk a $10,000 fine.
Switzerland has so far placed countries and regions in its “redist” for quarantine, as the period of 14 days passed more than 60 per 100,000 people there.
But in recent weeks, the country itself has seen its level of infection that galopoia and has over 760 cases of 100,000 people over the past two weeks, albinfo.ch further follows.
How are high-risk countries valued on October 29th?
Only countries or regions, whose level for 100,000 residents exceeds 60 registered in Switzerland, will be placed on the red list.
By Thursday, October 29th, the Swiss infection rate for 100,000 inhabitants is 858.
This means that the corresponding figure must be 918 (858 + 60).
When the announcement was made, only Belgium, the Czech Republic, Andorra and Armenia are considered at high risk with three regions of France, including Paris.
In France, the Hauts-de-French regions and de France / Paris, as well as the overseas territory of French Polynesia, are considered to be dangerous areas.
The government indicated that this list will be updated regularly on the basis of infection levels in Switzerland and abroad.
arrivals by European countries
Starting in June, Switzerland has begun to slow border controls.
As it stands, arrivals from all Schengen countries, the EU and EFTA will be allowed to enter but may be subject to a quarantine if infection rates are above the threshold mentioned above.
The United Kingdom is still considered an EU member by December 31st, meaning that freedom of movement continues at least until that date.
What about non-European countries?
Those from outside Europe known as third countries are restricted to entry.
This means that everyone without the status of European citizens will not be allowed to enter with certain limited exceptions.
There is a limited list of countries for which entry is not limited.
On October 29th, these are: Andorra, Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Vatican, Ireland, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Romania, Rwanda, San Marino, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, and Uruguay.
This does not include the United States, as is well - reported.
Is there an exception?
Members of the EU Citizens' Family /EFTA or residents will be allowed to enter, regardless of their nationality status.
There are certain exemptions for labour travelers, although this trip should be essential to us. It must be personally developed and given special approval.
As of August 3rd, members of unmarried couples can enter if one lives in Switzerland and the other abroad provided they experience relations with authorities.
To do so, the partner who does not live in Switzerland must receive an invitation from Switzerland's resident partner, while the legitimacy of the relationship will also have to be proven.
Should I make quarantine?
The demand for quarantine will be implemented by designated high-risk areas from July 6th onward. The list of seats is regularly updated by Swiss health authorities.
On October 29th, only Belgium, the Czech Republic, Andorra, and Armenia, along with three regions of France, including Paris, are considered at high risk.
The affected people will be informed on airplanes and borders, and should register with local authorities once in Switzerland.
