September 2021 is the most recent deadline under the Special Court Specialised Prosecutor's Office to launch trial against former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders.

The Special Court website has published on Tuesday the presentation of Chief Prosecutor Jack Smith that when the trial of Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselini, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi should start summer or not later than September.

The defense should have the opportunity to prepare for trial, but given what the defense has offered, this should take months, not years. For this reason, the chief prosecutor announces that the trial will begin this summer, and not later than the past 2021x1>, the announcement said.

At the first status session, the accused's lawyers had rejected this stance, saying they need more time to prepare for the case. Some of them had mentioned 2022 as the ideal for starting judgment.
