BICS summit Xi called for international co-operation against COVID-19

China's President Xi Jinping attended the 12th BRUCS summit Tuesday through video connection in Beijing at the invitation of Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The global economy has been suffering from the worst recession since the 1930 ' s, President Xi said at the beginning of the [...] speech.

He stressed that the trend of global multipollarisation and economic globalisation is unstoppable. President Xi also called for international solidarity and co-operation in meeting the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He added that Chinese companies are conducting clinical trials of the third phase of COVID-19 vaccines, along with Russian and Brazilian partners.
China will also have co-operation with South Africa and India, President Xi added.
BICS, a new market block, includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The meeting was organised by Russia, which holds the rotating presidency for this year.
This year's meeting was originally scheduled to take place in St Petersburg from July 21st to July 23rd, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (Albana) Wang Leigh)
