Kerry was one of several figures that were appointed to high positions by the Biden transition team on Monday, the BBC writes.
The appointment of senior officials came after incumbent President Donald Trump admitted defeat and said the transition process must begin.
Biden is expected to be elected president with 306 Electoral College votes, when this body meets on December 14th to officially appoint the new White House chief.
Through a statement published Monday after the staff's appointment, Beden said: “I need a team that is ready from the first day to help me get America back to the top of the country, to walk around the world to face the biggest challenges we have and to advance our values, our well-being and our security. ”
However, some of those appointed need confirmation from the Senate, where vote insurance will not be easy because the Republican Party has taken more seat than the Democratic Party.
Joe Biden is expected to officially launch office as president of the United States in January next year.
