Austria plans to launch the anti-coronvirus vaccine campaign in January, Health Minister Rudolf Anschober has said in the country.
According to him, the oldest, endangered groups and health professionals will be vaccinated first, broadcasting AFP.
This state will provide more than 16 million doses of vaccine through the European Union, which has signed six contracts with suppliers, according to Clemens Martin Auer, which co-ordinates the Austria Health Ministry's response to pandemic.
The “will probably start in January”, Minister Anschober has said.
Our goal is to vaccinate at least 50 percent of the population”, he said at a media conference, adding that the campaign could cost around 200m euros.
Currently, during the second wave of pandemic, Austria will start testing en masse early in December.
Austrian authorities recorded 4,377 positive cases Tuesday, in contrast to 5,984 seven days ago, when this state had one of the highest per capita infection figures.
The death toll the day before was 118.
Under new restrictions, which have begun applying from November, restaurants and bars, hotels, sports and cultural organisations, have been halted, although the number of infected has continued to rise.
