According to data recently released by the Kosovo Statistics Agency, gross domestic product has dropped by 9.28 % compared to the same quarter last year.
The head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Kadri Veselin, has blamed the neglect of the last two governments -- Kurti and Hoti -- for this huge economic damage done to the country.
Wessel has said the most damaged economic activities are construction, trade, tourism and gastronomia, which, according to him, has mostly attracted the PDK's attention.
However, Wessel has once again called on the Government to make a full and sustainable law that seriously addresses the needs and risks our economy is facing.
Wessel's full delivery, without interference:
The newly released data by the Kosovo Statistics Agency is talking about a significant 9.28% drop in Bruto Local Product compared to the same quarter last year. Unfortunately, our warning of a major economic damage from the pandemic is proving unless concrete measures are taken by the government to overcome the consequences. The most damaged economic activities are construction, trade, tourism and gastronomia for which we have mostly sounded the alarm.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Democratic Party of Kosovo was the first and the only one to have raised a voice about economic damage that would cause pandemic and have proposed a detailed programme of supporting the economy through a separate law ignored by other parties. We have suggested an emergency fund of at least 320m euros, salaries for employees in the private sector of 300 euros, as well as direct subsidies and grants to support affected businesses. If our proposals had been heard and implemented over time, I am sure the current economic crisis we face would have been prevented.
The current government, like that predecessor, continues to fail to take the necessary measures to cope with the consequences of pandemic, thus leaving the economy in free decline. Currently it has proposed an improvised and flawed law that does not help businesses and does not have the sweeping effect needed by our economy today. Mostly, they need state aid, private businesses that provide revenue for families of 2860,000 employees, and it's the ones that fill the state crates. In conditions where the economy is on the verge of collapse, I renew calling on the ruling parties, so that for the sake of the country's interest, we can jointly sit down all parties together with the economic efforts, to make a full and sustainable law that seriously addresses the needs and risks our economy is facing.
