The warning of election intelligence and security officials comes after statements by the director of national intelligence, who blamed Iran for the first significant attack on the 3 November elections, charging Tehran stands behind thousands of forged emails aimed at scaring voters.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Agency for Cyberetic Security and Security Infrastructure, emails submitted, as well as the ability of Russia and Iran to access voter registration information, are only the beginning of a larger campaign to undermine American elections on November 3rd.
According to them, Russia's attacks began in September and targeted dozens of networks of local and state governments in activities from aviation to education.
They gave no additional details about Russian actions, or which government servers were compromised.
