The EU's Special Envoy for Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak is standing in Belgrade today after his visit to Pristina.
There he met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq, who after the meeting said there was a good conversation with him about dialogue and normalising Kosovo-Serbia relations.
We had a good, rational and serious meeting on the future of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. What's important is that we agreed to continue Serbia's dialogue and full commitment to that dialog”.
“We also made a joint assessment of economic developments between Belgrade and Pristina, which is satisfactory. This is one of the most important things. Under three, the European future is important for Serbia, and that is not just a phrase. This is important because of many investments and because Serbia's position will be as strong as possible with the EU. Under four, I insisted on only one thing and this is in full implementation of the Brussels Agreement “, Vuciq said.
Lajcak, on the other hand, said the EU has only one mediating role in dialogue, while the main burden is for both sides participating in the talks.
The goal of my talks with President Vuciq is to talk about dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. The goal is to normalise relations, which means it is not up to the EU to decide. It is up to both sides to agree. The EU is here to help, we are not here to force”.
