There are many enigmatic people in history whose lives are surrounded by mystery, people for whom we may never know the truth. This time we have decided to present only these five most famous cases.
5. The man in the iron mask
His name and even his appearance were never discovered, and in history he remained known only as “The Man of the Iron Mask” or “Numri 64389000”.
The man in the iron mask was a prisoner in Bastille, France, and all we know about him, we thanked a swimmer held by Colonel Etienne du Yunca, an officer in Bastille. His records are the most important and reliable source of information we have regarding the management and management of Bastille during the reign of King Louis XIV.
The puzzling character whose identity was hidden under an iron mask became a legend, as well as the subject of many myths and speculations, the most popular of which is that he was actually Louis XIV's twin brother. Whatever the truth, most historians agree that it was a very important figure. The unfortunate prisoner died on November 19, 1903, and was buried named Marchial.
4. Kaspar Hauser
On May 26, 1828, a boy of unknown origin appeared on the streets of Nuremberg, Germany, carrying only a letter to Captain von Wesseng (who was leading the cavalry).
The anonymous author of the letter wrote that the boy was raised in a small cell and had never seen another human being and that he had learned to read and write as well as the Christian faith, although he never left home. The letter also states that the boy's desire is to be a knight and a message to Captain von Wessenig that “either train or hang”.
After the rumors began to circulate that Kaspar was actually Prince of Baden, who was thought to have died, the boy was murdered mysteriously (he was subjected to a knife wound). Modern historians claim that the boy was not a prince after all, and his true origin remains a secret to this day.
3. My Lord Chouchani
My Lord Chouchan is the nickname of an anonymous and mysterious Hebrew teacher who learned a great number of highly esteemed students. Very little is known about Chouchan, including his real name.
His beginnings, as well as his whole life, were a closely preserved secret. Even his Lapidar reads: “The wise Kubin Chouchan. His birth and life are sealed in a puzzle. ”
There is no known writing that Chouchan left behind, but he left a very strong intellectual heritage through his students. From them we know that Chouchan had a broad knowledge of people, science, mathematics, philosophy, and especially the Talmud.
2. Bérenger Saunière
Bérenger Saunière was a Roman Catholic priest in the French village of Rennes-le-Château until 1909, when he resigned. From 1909 to his death in 1917, he was an unpaid priest (an independent priest without a parish, who received no church wages).
Without money, he managed to manage and restore his old church, and suddenly he built a huge luxury villa and began to spend a great fortune... Many claim that Saunière found historically important documents that brought him enormous wealth overnight and became also subject to numerous legends and myths, many of which ended up in the best-seller at Dan Brown Codi Da Vinci. Bérenger Saunière is even connected to the history of the il Holy Cup, since some theorists believe it was the one who found it.
Modern historians claim that it is not the Holy Cup, secret documents or treasures found, but that the Sunnière was an ordinary fraud who abused his status as a priest by people who sent him in the mail to serve Mass for them, so he could have served a thousand Masses a day. One thing is certain, however, the life of Bérenger Saunière is surrounded by many mysteries and myths and legends... and we may never know the truth.
1. The Legend of Green Children From Woolpit
In the 12th century, a brother and sister appeared in the village of Woolp in Suffolk, England having green skin and speaking a language completely unknown. No one knew where they came from, and they refused to eat anything but shells.
The boy was depressed and soon passed away. The girl remained healthy, and eventually she started eating other foods and lost her green color. When she learned English, she explained that she came from the End of St. Martin ʹ, which was a dark place since the sun never rises there. She claimed she and her brother were guarding a flock of sheep from their father when they started following the river and suddenly heard the sound of a bell and were found in Woolpit.
To date, no one knows the true origin of green children and some of the known theories are that children came from Empty Earth, a parallel dimension, or even from another planet.
