Since Friday, quarantine will be introduced into seven out of 12 regions in Slovenia in order to prevent the spread of the Corona virus, the Slovenian government has decided.

The decree banning the gathering of more than 10 people in public or private places in central Slovenia, Gorenjska, Koroska, Zassavi, Possave, Savinjska and the southeastern part of Slovenia will enter into force at midnight.

Such a move was introduced in these regions, as in the past two weeks, an average of 140 residents for 100,000 contracted the COVID-19 virus.

Interior Minister Ales Hoys said at a press conference that residents of these regions will not be allowed to leave the region or leave during quarantine period, with exceptions designated as going to work, visiting doctors, providing assistance to relatives.

Hoys added that visiting the cemetery and funerals would be allowed and transit across regions would also be allowed.

Also, he said, in those regions, it is mandatory to keep masks out, not only inside, but children up to six years old.

In areas affected by quarantine, there are 117 out of a total of 212 municipalities, as well as cities such as Ljubljana, Kranji and Cele, while Maribor and Kopi are not covered by the decision.
