The winners were announced Wednesday in Stockholm by Goran Hansson, secretary-general of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Sweden.
The discovery is significant, the academy said.
Using the Genetic Adjust CRISPR/Cass9 allows the possibility of changing the <x0-cod of life over weeks”, she added.
The Nobel Prize comes with a gold medal and a $1.1 million reward.
The literature award will be announced on 8 October and the 9 October Peace Prize.
On Monday and Tuesday, prices for medicine and physics were shared.
The price for the economy will close the Nobel Prize season on 12 October. /rel
