Declarations of lifting the borders that were made at the joint meeting of the Government of Kosovo and Albania have been issued until Russia.
Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reacted over statements of lifting borders between Albania and Kosovo. They have said such actions pose real threats to peace and stability in the Balkans.
“Thesis about the necessity of including borders) between Albania and Kosovo cannot cause concern. We would like to remind you that Kosovo (and this is confirmed by UN Security Council Resolution 1244) is an integral part of Serbia and a free interpretation of the principle of territorial integrity when it comes to a sovereign country cannot be understood differently than as intervention in its internal affairs”, it says in a statement published on the Russian ministry's website.
For them, such statements annul efforts for Kosovo and Serbia to find a solution with dialogue.
“There is a clear impression that Pristina and Tirana, despite the suspicious and dangerous nature of their approach, continue to push the line of Greater Albania no matter what their plans hide... Such actions present a real risk to peace and stability in the Balkans”, the ministry's response stressed.
For statements at the gathering of Albanian governments, Russia expects reaction from the international community, especially the European Union.
Days earlier, Serbia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs had also reacted to the issue. They have delivered a protest note to Albania's ambassador to Serbia, Ilir Blce. On the note, protest was voiced over statements issued during the joint meeting of the Government of Kosovo and Albania on 2 October in Tirana.
Serbia expressed indignation at statements by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on removing the border with Kosovo.
“Declarations such as the unification of Albania and the Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija and the establishment of a Greater Albania are a justified reason for concern, both for the Republic of Serbia and for other countries in the region committed to preserving stability and intensifying co-operation in the region”, the Serbian Ministry's announcement said.
