The Czech Republic registered on Thursday 9,721 cases of people infected with coronary quee figure this record in one day.

The Health Ministry figures published today also indicate that 24 patients in the previous 24 hours have died of coronary.

The country of 10.7 million people has confirmed a total of 149,010 positive cases since the beginning of the pandemic in March.

Nearly 50,000 of them were registered last week.

The death toll has reached 1,230.

Hospitals throughout Czechia have postponed unnecessary operations to focus on increasing the number of coronary patients.

The Czech government has said that full hospital capacity could be filled by the end of October.

At the weekend, the Czech Army will start building a hospital at a Prague exhibition centre for 500 patients.

A similar plan is ready for the second largest Czech city, Brno.

The government is also negotiating with neighbouring Germany and several other countries for handling Czechs there if their health system is overloaded.

According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the Czech Republic currently has the worst rate of infection in Europe, with 660 infected in 100,000 inhabitants, over the past 14 days. / REL
