The attacker was shot to death by the authorities in the order, while President Macron said the teacher was killed because he learned “the freedom of expression”.
They won't win... We will act”, Macron said as he visited the location where the murder occurred.
Standing in front of the high school where the victim was attacked, Macron said that “a citizen was killed today because he was a teacher and because he learned freedom of expression”.
The victim was 47-year-old Samuel Payy, a teacher of history and geography at the Conflins Saint-Honorine School in northwest French capital.
The attack occurred around 5:00 local time Friday. According to authorities, the alleged killer was an 18-year-old armed Chechen refugee who was later shot dead by officers.
The event is being investigated by prosecutors for terrorism.
