In northern Macedonia, the number of cases registered with the new coronary (COVID-19) continues to rise, while the Infectious Disease Commission will decide whether to have new restrictive measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
The records of health authorities show that in the first 15 days of this month, more cases of Coronavirus have been recorded than the total number of cases recorded in the first four months since confirming the first case with COVID-19 in the country.
At the end of February, the first case in northern Macedonia was recorded, and by 15 June the total number of infected people with the virus was 4.157. Since the beginning of October, the number of recorded cases with this virus has reached 4,209.
Phillips: Early for police hours, restrictive measures must be respected
Yesterday, talking about the current situation with COVID-19 in a television conversation, Health Minister Venko Filipce stressed that if preventative measures had been respected, there would have been no such increase in the number of infected.
“We are aware that if these measures are not respected there should be additional restrictions, which would include restrictions on public transportation, restrictions on the functioning of certain economic restaurants and subjects, wherever we consider it a” risk, Filipce said.
He said some of the measures could be implemented in some municipalities, some could be implemented throughout the country. The minister added that this will be discussed at today's meeting of the Commission for Infectious Diseases.
“for police hours, personally I think it's still early, there's still room to respect the” measures, Filipce said.
“Hospital capacity being filled at speed”
According to Minister Filipce, although there are free spots in hospitals, capacity is rapidly filling. He announced there have been a large number of admissions to hospitals over the past 24 hours.
He stressed that the biggest problem is the lack of doctors and nurses, due to which there are already lists for the rotation of medical personnel, and sixth-year students will be involved in helping epidemiologists conduct polls.
Regarding the results of the mortality analysis by COVIID-19 in northern Macedonia, Minister Filipce said that, the largest “Percent, more than 85 percent, are people with other diseases and are over 60 years old, the most critical and dangerous group. Here are patients who come to the hospital late with bad parameters”.
