Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti has spoken of the importance of the agreements expected to be signed today.
Hoti has said that today Kosovo and Albania have entered a new phase of interstate co-operation.
According to him, this indicates the clear definition of the two governments.
Looking at the list of agreements, it's very important for our countries. I believe that today with these agreements we enter a new phase of interstate cooperation. With these agreements, protocol memorandums show commitment and determination to move forward under new circumstances. We have estimated that through implementing these deals such as the establishment of a joint fund for the Presevo Valley and other agreements, I believe they show our determination to solve many of the problems that concern citizens and businesses”, he said.
Hoti also spoke of economic measures as a result of the impact caused by COVID-19 pandemic.
We should mobilize our entire capital, economic and human. We can complete this year with an economic downturn of minus one to three percent, from predictions we've had up to 11 per cent. Now beyond that, there is a need to have a longer-term approach to economic development, and we've started drafting development strategy for the next 10 years, which will set the framework for development of all sectors”, he said.
Hoti also spoke of the challenges Kosovo has faced in foreign policy. He said that reports with partners were recently hurt, and that their recovery was the first step Kosovo should take.
In this context, he also spoke of visa liberalisation.
“We have followed many challenges in diplomacy to restore relations with our strategic partners, relations that were recently hurt. We had to make very necessary decisions to give the signal we should see as contributing to peace and stability, with a final agreement with our northern neighbour and where the whole region. We are thinking that in our request, we should not be too insulting to the EU, but keep the criteria” complete, he said.
Hoti also spoke of dialogue, which according to him is a challenge for Kosovo.
He voiced confidence that Kosovo will move quickly in this direction.
“Dialog remains a challenge for Kosovo. We built a clear platform for dialogue. I think we're moving well ahead. I am convinced of the approach we have built together with coalition partners that in this process we can move quickly before”, Hoti said.
