Germany must continue to limit the number of people at gatherings and unnecessary travel until the state is facing increased numbers of infected people, a deputy Chancellor Angela Merkel has said on Sunday.
“We need to be stricter in countries where infection is more likely to spread, like the parties and unfortunately the” trip, Chairman of the Chancellor's staff, Helge Brown, ARD.
“We are at the start of the second wave and only the determination of politicians and the population can decide whether to overcome or slow it”, he adds.
Germany has managed to keep the number of infected and dead from Coronavirus below many of its neighbours, but the daily number of new cases has exceeded 4,000 since Thursday, the highest figure since April, Reuters writes.
Merkel and the heads of Germany's 11 largest cities have decided Friday to tighten measures if the number of infected increases.
