Germany's ambassador to Kosovo, Jörn Rohde, through a virtual speech on the Day of the Union of Germany, has said they support efforts to normalise Kosovo's reports and ultimately work towards European integration of the entire region.
While stressing that Germany and the EU are investing in this process.
“Here in Kosovo we are supporting efforts to normalise its reports and ultimately work towards European integration of the entire region. To free the potential of all citizens in the region and beyond. Germany and the EU are investing in the process, in 2019 the EU and its member states as a whole have invested more than 194m euros more than all other donors combined. Meanwhile this year, in the face of the COVID pandemic, we very soon allocated an additional 171m euros to address the environmental needs of health and economic recovery”, he said.
Rohde, has stressed that EU enlargement and the EU union process must continue, for what he says it takes a lot of work to turn this “dream” into reality. Until it has added that the steps towards integration need daily commitment.
“With Germany now holding the presidency of the EU Council, we are holding the region in the agenda. EU enlargement and the EU union process must continue, however, it is clear that much hard work is needed to turn this dream into reality. Steps on this road towards integration need daily commitment; implementation of rule of law, uncondemned fighting and corruption, improving governance to enable economic development, better standard of living, and pursuing a clear vision of where the European perspective will lead Kosovo and the entire region”, he has said.
Ambassador Rohde has indicated that he will focus all their commitment on a collective vision for the region.
Let's focus our whole commitment on a collective vision for this region. After three decades of living in a united Germany, a whole generation has grown up without memories of the Berlin Wall or the internal German border. Let's celebrate this day of the Union of Germany as a day that symbolizes all of this, that collective commitment to a common vision of democracy, solidarity, community, diversity and freedom will lead to a better future for all”, Rohde stressed.
