French health authorities say France has recorded more than 1 million confirmed cases of coronary from the beginning of the pandemic, becoming the second country in Western Europe after Spain to reach this number of infections.
The National Health Agency issued new figures showing that tests had confirmed at least 1,041,075 cases in France this year, including 42,032 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
Experts say the actual number of infections is perhaps much higher than those reported by governments in the world, due to the lack of tests at the beginning of pandemic, asmitmatic cases and other issues, A2 reports.
Like other countries in Europe, daily cases have increased significantly in France in recent weeks. Patients with COVID-19 now occupy more than 42% of the country's rate beds, and 64% in the Paris region.
More than 11,000 new patients with COVID-19 have been admitted to hospital for the past week, including 1,714 in intensive care, according to the national health agency.
French President Emmanuel Macron said “pidemia is accelerating a lot”, speaking earlier Friday after visiting a hospital in Pontoise, a suburb north of Paris.
He also said we would have this virus at least by summer.
We'll be saved from the virus only with luck, but we've seen that we haven't had any luck yet, either for collective immunity or for a combination of vaccine treatment” In any case, we'll have this virus at least by the summer”.
The French government has expanded the curfew to eight urban areas of France last week, including 38 other regions and Polynesia. The detention routes between 9am and 6am and other public health measures will last for “at least six weeks”, Macron said.
The extension means that 46 million of France's 67 million people will be under police ban that prohibits them from being outside during those hours, except for such reasons as walking a dog, traveling to and from work, and catching a train or flying.
France has reported over 34,000 virus-related deaths, one of the highest in Europe since 1 March.
