Although the new academic year at the University of Pristina is expected to begin soon, the Student Centre has not yet made a decision to open the student admission contest.

These delays, according to Student Centre Director Fatmir Sfishta, have occurred because there is still no response from the Ministry of Education and Science and the National Public Health Institute.

The posters in a proposal for news.net has indicated they are prepared for student admission, but have not yet received answers from relevant institutions regarding recommendations that they have drafted as the Students' Centre.

We are prepared, ready, but there is no decision by other institutions, in this case the Ministry of Education and Science, nor the National Institute of Public Health. It's not our decision to take it under these pandemic conditions, otherwise the dorms would be full today.”, Sfish told news.net.

Furthermore, Sfisha says their plan has also been designed for student mensis and that they will wait for answers from the UN and IKSHPK regarding the next steps.

“We have given some suggestions for the Ministry of Education and the Institute, now it is up to them to decide how to proceed. We don't decide anymore. We have also made plans for student messes and are expecting answers from relevant authorities”, Sfisha said further.

Among other things, Sfisha added that there has been a disinfection of all spaces and rooms at the Students Centre. The Pristina University Students Centre has the capacity to accept 40,000 students.

And the delays in opening dorms are bothering students. The start of the new academic year, according to them, will be difficult if the Student Centre is not ready for residence, and the cafeteria will not be accessible for feeding.

Avdyl Gashi, a student at the Technical Faculty in a campaign for news.net has expressed concern over these delays, saying the ministry must quickly issue the decision and recommendations on how to function.

It is essential for us to have a place to sleep and feed as students. We should not even be preoccupied with this, but only with the good work and the pursuit of speech, if this too becomes a burden to us, then it is over”, he said.

Even Besare Nuhi of the Faculty of Medicine expresses concern as she says she finds it difficult to understand why there should be delays when, by the end of last year, there has been time to organize the mode of operation in the pandemic.

It is understandable that the current situation with the pandemic of the COVID 19 virus is difficult and a new normality that we need to get used to, but previously consultations should be made with both the Health and Education Ministry and the Institute of Public Health and the management dorms were ready for students. Annie why I'm a resident of Pristina, I have colleagues from other cities who still need to get into the dorm, she said.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Education and Science has yet to issue any decision or recommendation for the Student Centre as to how to proceed further and whether the recommendations and functioning plan drafted by the latter is appropriate and sufficient.

On the other hand, the new academic year at Pristina University for Bachelor-level students is expected to begin on 15 October.
