European Union leaders have agreed on Thursday to continue talks with Britain to reach new trade agreement “in the coming days”, but have also decided to step up preparations if negotiations fail.
National leaders of the 27-nation European bloc have met in Brussels to discuss Britain's departure from the EU, it has been said in their joint decision.
The EU has also called on Britain “to take the necessary steps to make it possible to reach agreement”.
European leaders have stressed that the previous EU and Britain divorce should be implemented overall by the end of this year, reference to the new document created by the United Kingdom on the issue, known as the Internal Trade Bill.
If approved in Britain, this document would conflict with some parts of the Brex agreement reached between this country and the European bloc earlier this year.
Britain's EU exit decision has come after 52 per cent of voters have voted for Britain's EU exit 48 per cent who have rejected it in the referendum held in 2016.
