In a televised address, he urged world leaders to protect Muslims “if there is oppression against Muslims in France”.
Erdogan has angrily criticised French counterpart Emmanuel Macron for pledging to defend secular values.
This comes after a French teacher was beheaded by a Muslim student for showing the cartoons of Prophet Muhammad in class.
France “will not give up the” cartoons, President Macro said earlier this week.
Prophet Muhammad's presentations are widely regarded as taboo in Islam and are offensive to Muslims.
Amid the deterioration of ties over the weekend, Erdogan said Macron needed a mental health check due to expressions with so much pressure on the issue.
His remarks prompted France to call its ambassador to Turkey for consultations.
