After meeting with Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhely, has spoken to the media.

He has said that the European Commission's aim is to expand the Western Balkans and exchange credibility after it was created by the pandemic, COVID-19.

Varhely has talked about the economic investment plan could completely change the economy of the countries of the region, where, according to him, there is expected to be up to 5 per cent.

We expect that this plan will increase the region's economy by up to 5 percent and this will be the biggest investment for economic recovery. We're listening to the region where they need investment and help after the pandemic. Together with the prime minister, we will implement strategies to achieve necessary results. This is a plan that has regional participation, regional benefits and we have to co-operate with each other. Our requirement is to speed up reforms because these investments go along with the analysis of reforms. We need all the capacities needed to use these funds from Brussels and together in co-operation with you”, he has said.

Among other things, the commissioner has talked about visas, he has made it clear that EU states are not convinced of liberalisation despite Kosovo meeting the conditions.

There's no single meeting we haven't discussed on this issue, I'm trying to convince the states of the European Union. You've met all the conditions. The commission is not making the decision, so it must convince states to agree to visa liberalisation”, he has said.

On the other hand, Hoti before Warhely said he has brought good news to Kosovo.

The commissioner brought fantastic news to Kosovo and the Western Balkans, the news of investment in the Western Balkans worth a total of 28 billion euros from the EU, of which 9 billion are grants to the Western Balkans. The project we have proposed as a government has been fully included, including the Pristina-Merdara Highway, Pristina Railways é Merdare, and I believe that within 3-4 years we will completely change economic circumstances in Kosovo”, Hoti said.

The prime minister further said he has assured the commissioner that Kosovo is determined to advance the European agenda.

He said Varheliu also has consensus on visa liberalisation.

“I assured the commissioner that we are determined to bring the European agenda forward. For four months of our rule, the word “corruption” has been removed from public disk. The shares that started two weeks ago are continuing, and you'll see more. We are facing challenges in dialogue. Visa liberalisation remains an important issue. We have met the conditions since 2018 and hope the EU moves forward. The good commissioner understands this sensitive issue”, Hoti said.
