Authorities said earlier this week that they were planning to complete the trial for a period of five days. No new cases reported.
The mass testing was in response to the discovery of dozens of hospital-related cases in the city port, the BBC writes, translates Periscopi.
Local health officials have now said the blast occurred by two port workers who had stayed in the hospital.
The couple used the scan room for examination, but the room was not properly disinfected before taking other patients in other days, they said.
Qingdao was seeking to avoid a severe quarantine, and instead tested residents. /Periscope
