Scientists from the Sage committee yesterday presented grim figures showing that Coved is spreading faster than even their original forecast for the worst scenario, writes the Daily Mail.

Last night a cabinet source told Mail that the dramatic movement will be announced next week. It was not exactly clear what form the new closure would take, or what would be ordered to close or how long it would last.

The government now faces a critical weekend to determine the form of measures before an announcement.

Prime Minister and Chancellor Richi Sunak is said to have been exasperated by the decision, fearing it would damage the economy beyond.

But scientists, backed by Health Secretary Matt Hancock and senior Minister Michael Gove told the latter that the virus could kill 85,000 Britons this winter.

They called for a nationwide stalemate similar to the month-long closure in France, saying it was the only way to maintain hospital capacities.
