The facility, which should serve as Emergency Clinic at QKUK, is expected to be turned into COVID hospital. This clinic started building in 2016 and had to be put into operation for three years. Although we are in 2020 on this facility, only rough works and the destination of this object are expected to change temporarily.
The Health Ministry says the designer and works are being selected soon to begin so that all patients with COVID-19 can be treated in this facility in case of worsening the epidemiological situation in Kosovo.
Health Minister Armenmen Zemaj, in an interview for Kosova Preris, said this facility has been the most appropriate one to prepare for the COVID hospital.
Zemaj says that after the end of the pandemic this hospital will return for use as Emergency Clinic.
This quiet pandemic situation has enabled us to prepare for any stage or situation, if we have eventually deteriorated the epidemiological situation in this regard since the beginning of the pandemic has attempted to expand hospital capacity, there has been no concrete case other than the demand and research of objects or building of the new facility. We're in a phase that's completed emergency design and immediately over the weeks it will be initiated to turn this facility into a COVID hospital. Steps are fast, dynamic and concrete. We've also secured a budgetary stake, and I quickly believe that we will be able to implement this project, which ensures that we have some kind of COVID case treatment aid if the situation gets worse. Above all that is why we have chosen this project is because it returns to the destination for which it has even started in the QKUK”, Zemaj said.
The first of Kosovo's health has also talked about capacities that will be provided for treatment of coronary patients.
Minister Zemaj said the cost of completing this project is affordable to Kosovo's budget.
“Kosto is affordable to Kosovo's budget as well, we have had other parameters that were quite enormous if we had an object outside the University Clinical Centre or the drafting of a new object. We're hoping and we believe it will be affordable and fast to complete. [...] 400 to 500 beds are scheduled for 50 to 70 intensive beds. [...] All under the system and the project that is being done has only completed the design phase, (winner) has been selected”, Zemaj said.
In addition to the areas for treatment attributed to those infected with this virus, Health Minister Armend Zemaj said that the concentration of all patients in one space would create ease for health professionals as well.
For treatment cases with COVID, what you're going to be hospital cases, this object will be turned for that. It's easier for health professionals, it's more comfortable treatment, intervention becomes earlier, caution is ongoing, we hope and believe that, in the context of this, life will be saved if there are serious cases like we had in the months of July and August”, Zemaj said.
Construction of the new Emergency Clinic, which is an investment of the Ministry of Health worth about 8m euros, started in 2016 and was designed to be built on a three-year deadline.
