Azerbaijan said on Sunday that the Armenian armed forces had promoted the country's second largest city, at a new major escalation of the conflict in the South Caucasus.
Armenia has denied that it attacked Azerbaijan, but the leader of the Armenian enclave Nagorno-Karabakh has said its forces have destroyed a military air base located in Ghana.
“The permanent military units located in the large cities of Azerbaijan are now becoming the targets of the defence army,”, Karabag leader said.
The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry has said that the towns of Terter and Horadiz near the Nagorno-Karabakh border were under large grants, Reuters reports.
The fighting began a week ago and has gone to the worst level since 1990, where 30,000 people were killed.
Resumption of one of the frozen <x0-consects” from the collapse of the Soviet Union has raised concerns about stability in the South Caucasus, a corridor for transporting oil and natural gas to world markets, and has raised fears that Russia and Turkey may be involved in this regional powers.
