“Avoid the second wave”: New York under new measures on COVID-19

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Sunday that to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus would close starting Wednesday with non-toxic businesses, as well as schools in nine neighbourhoods identified as sources of infection with COVID-19. Months ago this city was the age of pandemic in the United States.
Seeking approval from state agencies for closure, Mr. de Blasio said the decision would affect nine areas where the infection rate has increased, in some cases as a result of failure to keep physical distance and not use masks. He said 11 other areas were on a watch list due to increased levels of infection.
New York is one of 18 countries where cases have not increased over the past two weeks, according to analyses by Reuters news agency. Nine states have reported record rise in cases with COVIED-19 over the past seven days, mainly in the central and western part of the country, where cold weather is forcing many people to close in.
If the governor of the state of New York Andrew Cuomo approves closure, some neighbourhoods in Brooklyn and Queens will be ordered to shut down all non-religious businesses, restaurants and private and public schools. About 100 public schools and 200 private schools will be closed for up to four weeks if the mayor's request is approved.
De Blasio said students and students in the country's largest public education district would be forced to be educated via the internet. He said they would be equipped with tools that enable students and students to continue education from a distance and not as before with their presence at school banks.
Mayor de Blasio said the closure was aimed at facilitating concerns that cold weather in the coming months would force a stay in the domestic environments of more people and would result in a second wave of infection from the deadly virus, bringing back the high number of cases of COVID-19 that flocked to hospitals in New York City in the spring.
“We must keep the situation under control and absolutely we will avoid a second wave of”, Mayor de Blasio said during a press conference Sunday. He said the schools were not the main source of the spread of the virus. “From two schools in one area, only one test proved positive”, he said. /VOA
