The detainee was identified as 42-year-old Dale Reed, who is accused of sexually threatening Senator Kamala Harris, a democratic candidate for vice president. According to the indictment, he had left a letter at the entrance of a neighbor's house that had put a banner in front of the house in support of Joe Biden and Mrs. Harris.
The detainee, who initially denied that he had left the letter with threats, was recorded by a neighbour's security camera leaving the letter on October 4th.
Prosecutors say Dale Reed was interrogated at the apartment and later arrested after admitting he had left the letter.
In a statement, Merland District Attorney Robert Hur said threats were illegal acts and that his office seriously treats such an act.
The secret service protecting the president and presidential candidates has filed a federal court indictment against the defendant, who said he had left the letter after he was concerned by the political situation, according to the indictment.
A few days ago more than ten people were arrested for plotting to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, while concerns about possible acts of violence have increased during the election cycle.
This case is not the first incident Dale Reed faces charges of threatening statements. In 2014, he had made similar threats to an unindented person who was under the protection of the Secret Service.
