The United States Embassy in Ankara said it was temporarily suspending all services for American and visa citizens at its consulates in Turkey due to reports of possible terrorist attacks.
The embassy said in a statement that the US <x0 session in Turkey has received reliable reports of possible terrorist attacks and kidnappings against American and foreign citizens in Istanbul, including against the general American consulate or other Turkish cities”.
In a communiqué, the State Department urged American citizens to show increased care in places where there may be American or foreign citizens' gatherings, such as large office buildings or supermarkets.
The Islamic State Group and an illegal Kurdish militant group carried out deadly attacks in Turkey between 2015 and 2017. An extreme left group has also previously targeted the US Embassy in Ankara.
