United Kingdom Ambassador to Kosovo Nicholas Abbott has said that the involvement of the United States of America and Ambassador Richard Green in the Kosovo dialogue process- Serbia is positive and has noted practical progress on this issue.
The English diplomat has stressed that issues in negotiations with Serbia cannot be resolved without Kosovo's commitment. Abbott has been invited to “FOL Open”, where, among other things, has responded to the withdrawal of the European Union and the US from the selection process at the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council.
We must admit that the involvement of the United States and special envoy Richard Green has been positive and has made practical progress on issues that are known to all. Of course it meant greater attention, greater concentration, and I think the gathering of those people at the White House has led them further on their journey than they had ever achieved. So I think this in itself is positive”, he said.
It has already said Kosovo has won from all international engagement on this issue.
The Washington Agreement included various things, some of which the European Union is involved, such as infrastructure projects, some issues pertaining to foreign policy, such as the minister, Israel recognition, such issues. As for the benefits, Kosovo has won from all that international commitment. You know better, I'm in Kosovo for a year, there's a story not only of relations, but also of normalisation and negotiations. Negotia is when two parties have different issues that need to be resolved and the way to do so must be found. Those issues will not be resolved by themselves, without Kosovo engaging. Sometimes I think there's an assumption that the international community will somehow bring a solution, I don't think it stays. I understand why some want to believe it, but I don't think it's going to be like that”, Abbott said.
As regards the withdrawal of the EU Office and the American Embassy in Kosovo from the selection processes at the Prosecutorial Council, Abbott has said there must be more transparency and meritocracy in the selection.
My “, or what we're trying to do, is to have more transparency, more meritocracy in the selection. My predecessor when he spoke to you has been clear, it has nothing to do with those believed could create a neutral political process, Kosovo is a small country. Partial integrity and identification is very important, and it plays a role, but the issue is more than not playing the role at meetings. To ensure that there is transparency in employment, that the system is not manipulated, and that the process does not mean that people owe to someone outside the institutions who must repay the debt later. This is concerning the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council and its surrounding issues”, he has said.
