Corruption perception index has ranked 180 corruption countries, ranging from those with lower corruption to those with higher corruption.
Switzerland is ranked fourth on Transparency International (TI)'s 2019 Corruption Perception Index, which focuses on corruption in the public sector, writes albinfo.ch.
The least corrupt country emerged New Zealand (first place), Denmark (second place), Finland (third place), while Switzerland ranked fourth.
Switzerland is located among seven countries in the rankings over the past three years. However, there is still room for improvement in reducing corruption, notes the NGO.
“Switzerland has serious shortcomings in key areas of anti-corruption work not included in the index, such as money laundering, protection of forged parties and corruption in the private sector and sports sector”, a statement said.
In recent years Swiss banks and other financial mediators have been caught in major money laundering and corruption scandals worldwide, such as those linked to 1 MDB in Malaysia or Odebrecht and Petrobas in Brazil.
It is noteworthy that Germany was ranked ninth in Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception Index 2018.
