Turkey's Parliament has approved sending military troops to Libya to support the UN-backed government.

Turkish lawmakers have voted 325 votes for 184 against sending troops for a year to Libya.

Currently, there are concerns that Turkish forces could exacerbate the conflict in Libya.

The prime minister's government, Fayez Sarray, based in Tripoli and supported by the UN, is fighting against the far east-based rival administration of the state, led by the general, Khalifa Haftar.

The general's loyal forces, supported by Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and other countries, including those believed to be Russian mercenaries, have launched an offensive in April last year to invade Libya's capital, broadcast relief.

Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan has said the Sarright government has called for the deployment of Turkish troops.

Ankara says the move is very important for preserving the interests Turkey has in Libya and the eastern Mediterranean.
