Snow began falling this morning and immediately stopped traffic in the Iranian capital.
“We knew it would start snowing at night and that it would affect traffic in the city,” said Tehran traffic police chief Mohamadre Mehmandar for state television.
“On some roads in the northern part of town, we have a freeze... resulting in traffic accidents, but aid arrived very soon,” he said.
Because of heavy snow, all schools in the capital and in several surrounding provinces were closed.
Snow also stopped air traffic at Mehrabad International Airport near Tehran, where nearly all flights were delayed or canceled by midday.
Air traffic normally took place at the International Airport, Emma Khomeini. Snow in Tehran area, northern provinces will continue to fall until Monday
