The Ukrainian Border Guard Service, which is a branch of the Federal Security Service (FSB), has banned Ukrainian journalist Taras Ibragimov from entering Ukrainian territory occupied by Russia, in Crime, until 2054.
Ibragimov, who works for the Ukrainian Radio Free Europe service, said this decision has been brought to him without explanation.
I definitely believe that this relates to my journalistic work and my work on articles that actively cover the cases of the Crimean Tatars and Russia”, Ibragimov said.
He said he was photographed and had fingerprints taken at the administrative border between the Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014.
In February 2019, photographer Alina Smutko, who also works for the Ukrainian REL service, has been banned from entering Crime from Russia until 2028. And REL journalist Alena Savchuk in 2018 was banned from entering Crime until 2028.
Human rights groups and Western governments have condemned what they have described as a promotional campaign by Russian authorities against the Crimean Taxmen and other people who oppose the survey of the Ukrainian Crimea region by Russia.
In the annual report on religious freedoms in 2019, the US Commission on Religious Freedoms said that Russian “authorities continue the kidnapping, torture and imprisonment of Tatar MEPs” in Russia's occupied Crime.
