She called on the parties for dialogue.
I'm shocked by images of flag desecration. The attack on the Montenegrin Embassy is absolutely unacceptable. Differences of thoughts should be addressed through dialogue, not violence and vandalism”, said Risting Rice.
Some Serbian football fans protested in front of the Montenegrin Embassy in Belgrade on December 26th in 2019.
Official Podgorica later invited Serbian Ambassador Vladimir Bozovic to the conversation.
Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic called the event a non-civilising attack. He called the Serbian authorities' stance on burning Montenegro's national flag surprising.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq said on 3 January that he is not to be proud of burning through Montenegrin flag pyrotechnic means, but that the embassy was not threatened, and no one tried to enter it.
Protests before the Montenegrin Embassy were held to challenge the law on religions Montenegro's parliament has adopted.
The law has sparked tensions in Podgorica and Belgrade, as there are concerns that this document could lift the Serbian Orthodox Church's right to property management.
The Serbian Orthodox Church claims the law will take over the property, including monasteries and churches, so it plans to file complaints to international organisations.
Montenegrin officials have denied the assumption that the church would lose its property.
