US President Donald Trump's administration will make it more difficult to export artificial intelligence software as part of an effort to keep sensitive technologies out of the hands of rival powers like China.
Under a new regulation that goes into effect Monday, companies exporting certain types of geospace image programmes from the United States must seek licenses to send it abroad.
The measure is not worth Canada.
The rule will enter into force only in the United States, but American authorities may later present it to international bodies as efforts to convince other countries to adopt similar measures.
There has been a growing disappointment by republican lawmakers and Democrats for procrastinating the process of new regulations that strengthen export controls for these devices.
Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer has asked the Department of Commerce to speed up the process. /rel
