UN gives asylum rights as a consequence of climate change risks

The issue was raised by Ioan Teitiota, a resident on the island of Kiribati, who moved to New Zealand and argued that he should have the right to stay there, as climate change is making life in his country impossible, which was being flooded as a result of rising ocean levels.
This is the first time a UN body has considered the issue of asylum rights, related to climate change. (time. mk)
